Great Travel Moment After several days of craning my neck staring at the most wonderful old buildings of Chianti (Tuscany), Italy, I realized I was missing something that was right before my eyes -- Hanging Laundry. These bright red underpants/stockings, probably worn by marchers in a Sienna contrada (district) parade, reached out and grabbed my attention. The sight had been right before my eyes many times. But what it made me think about was how different life is in Sienna. How neighbors know every detail of your 'unmentionables' and what a 'no big deal' it was. When we put what we hide out in the open, we may be accepted for who we really are. |
