Great Travel Moment This was it, the 'real' Patagonia experience. Up until now, ours had been 'too real'. We'd arrived to a town at the 'ends of the earth', three strangers, to volunteer as English teachers in local Chilean schools--a task both extremely challenging and rewarding--to be so far away from anything we'd ever known. We had decided to go on a little weekend escape to the neighboring town of El Calafate to see the world famous Perito Moreno glacier and splurged our small monthly stipends on an ice hike. Excitedly, we huddled together, three pairs of crampons digging determinedly into the glacier's cool surface--a new circle of life-long friends--and prepared ourselves for yet another unforgettable adventure. |
