Great Travel Moment In July of 2003, I took a road trip across the Western United States along Route 66. Cliche perhaps, but it was still a timeless, unforgettable road trip. A stop at the Grand Canyon is a requisite, of course. But rather than snapping a couple of pictures from the rim and jumping back in the car with the A/C on full blast, I spent two days hiking from the South Rim along the South Kaibab trail to the base of the Canyon, spending one night at the bottom, and hiking back up Bright Angel Trail the following day. Somewhere in the midst of the 126F heat and 20 miles of hiking, and the 1+ mile of elevation change, I witnessed the most incredible sunrise of my life, and shot this picture of an Agave bloom in silhouette with the North Rim in the distance. I treasure this photograph and the memories it entails. |
