Great Travel Moment In 2002 I was fortunate to visit the Mayan ruins at Tikal. This was a memorable experience for me as I sat atop ancient buildings surrounded by jungles and watching the native fauna. The following year I made it to Cambodia, to Angkor Wat. Our guide took us to those ancient Khymer ruins and as i sat atop those pyramids I realized how similar the locales, the actual feeling of these places, Tikal and Angkor Wat, resonated. The inner sensation of being in these ancient cities was so similar, it left me realizing that, although on opposite sides of the globe, the world felt tied together in a special way I had never felt before. This photo is from the Bayon temple. Although I knew my guide would never have the money to travel to other side of the planet, i knew if he could sit at Tikal he would somehow feel he was at home. |
