Great Travel Moment It was hot. I was hot, tired and sweaty. We had spent the day touring Stonetown. I brought way too much junk along in my backpack and was irritable and hungry. We had just spent the entire day walking and were able to visit old sites of slavery and learn more about the horrendous conditions former slaves had to endure prior to being sent to the USA. My feet were covered in blisters and did I mention it was hot? Then while standing on this patio of our hotel I suddenly felt ashamed. I will never forget wishing I could apologize to former slaves for my self-centeredness as I looked out over the rapidly setting sun. What an amazing life I am fortunate to be living. How many times had former slaves seen the same sunset? I remember worrying that I would not get my camera situated in time to capture this amazing view. Each time i look at this photo I recall my humility at that given moment. I never want to forget the gratitude that I felt. |
