Great Travel Moment The fishing boats still go out from the artificial harbour at Alexandria, as they have since Alexander's men built it over 2000 years ago. It hasn't stayed entirely the same: in the background is Fort Chatby, built on the site of the great lighthouse of Alexandria, which collapsed long ago. We were there to visit the new Library of Alexandria, which brings back to life the greatest cultural achievement of the ancient city, as new life comes to the city and its magnificent corniche. |
