Great Travel Moment Almost every single house in the floating villages of fish farmers that are spread around Ha Long Bay had at least one dog. The dogs were there to guard the fish that were, of course, supplied as hatchlings by the North Vietnamese government. You couldn't help but wonder what kind of lives these people (and their dogs) have, or how they feel about their lives -- spending 99% of their time on these floating homes, only rowing to a land-based city once in awhile to pick up supplies or a fully charged car battery to power their few appliances. Maybe they think we're strange, or even boring, for living in homes that are always stuck in the exact same location on plain old land. Perhaps they wouldn't have it any other way. |
