Great Travel Moment This may be the farthest I've ever felt from home, yet I was quite content to be there. The location is a small island in Ha Long Bay. To get there I took multiple flights, a taxi, a private bus, a hired boat, and then an even smaller hired boat. There were virtually no manmade changes to the island, except for a decrepit boat dock and a homemade structure that was used as an outdoor restaurant for those whom visited here by small boat. How old was this dock? I don't know. Could it have been from during or prior to the Vietnam War era (or the American War, as they called it in North Vietnam)? I imagined so. Regardless, it reminded me of how most of the world does not look like the modern American cities that I'm used to; most of the world is relatively undeveloped, natural, and sometimes untouched. |
