Great Travel Moment This picture will always remind me of the great German folklore that enchants its lands. From the Rhine River and the myth of the Lorelie, the siren who drew boats into the rocks, to the Drachenfels, the dragon rock where a dragon once lived and was slayed. I was hiking to the castle ruins in this picture. The island in the middle of the river once housed a woman who joined the nunnery after believing that her prince died at war, but he returned alive and they could no longer be together because she was committed to the church. So the prince built a castle up on the Drachenfels so that he could watch over his love in the nunnery on the island in the middle of the Rhine. I fell in love with their colorful historical folklore. |
