Great Travel Moment This photograph is personal to me because it represents a sense of calm in a town full of chaos and famine. I traveled to India this past winter with a small group of students for a photography class. We stayed at a guesthouse in one of the holiest cities in India, Vrndavan, located in Northern India in the region of Mathura. I took this photo, along with countless others that exemplify the life of the people and places I came across while on this incredible journey. As an American tourist living amongst Hindu worshipers for three weeks, it was uncomfortable and difficult to take an individuals photograph. It felt insincere and exploitative. However, this photograph was taken on my first day in Vrndavan, where I came across these young boys standing on a cart. Their calm expressions and sense of peace was captured in this photo, making it my favorite. |
