Great Travel Moment Manarola, a small town in the Cinque Terre, Italy, has very few tourist accommodations - just a few tiny apartments for rent - we were fortunate enough to rent one for 5 days. In the evening the day tourists are gone and one can witness the true life of the locals. This beautiful view flanks the side of a tiny piazza, approximately 8 ft x 6 ft, where every evening a group of older women set up their table and chairs to play cards (no folding chairs, or card table - mind you). It was wonderful to greet them each evening in passing on our way to dinner and watch them gesticulating and chatting/arguing over the game in a most italian fashion - I would have loved to have been invited to play cards with them while gazing out over the blue Mediterranean ... |
