Great Travel Moment I sat silently, watching three albatross atop a sand dune on Laysan Island, silhouetted against a sky filled with the golden light of the setting sun. The day was coming to a close in one of the remotest places on earth. During a three month stay we lived in tents, existing on solar energy and with the minimal impact possible. Life continued on around us in cycles of birth and death, courtship dances, and fledglings taking their first flight. The albatross remind me to take pause each day for the sunset. It is very easy to get caught up in our modern lifestyles and forget to watch day turn to twilight. This image represents a special travel moment because it I was reminded of an essential truth simply by watching birds. It nourishes the spirit to take some minutes to marvel at the colors, each day different from the last. |
