Great Travel Moment The Grand Canyon is so large it is visual trickery. From the South Rim the North Rim looks more like a painted backdrop than anything real. The width and depth becomes clear when you realize the very thin layer of green on top of the very far off horizon is the same evergreen forest that you are standing in on your side. Add a human and the scale amazes yet again. The erosion caused by the relentless flow of the Colorado River created the canyon in the equivalent of an eye blink relative to the age of the earth. And humans have existed for only a nanosecond of that eye blink. It is humbling and wonderful to see such stunning evidence of nature's eternity. |
