Dream Trip 2009Garrapata State Park - Just south of Carmel, California

Great Travel Moment Just seven miles south of Carmel, California on Highway 1, and sitting just north of the Big Sur scenic drive is Garrapata State Park. Climbing up the 1800 ft elevation gain to the top normally affords one incredible views of highway one running along the central Pacific coast. After huffing and puffing for 1.5 hours I finally made it to the summit, only to find the view totally blocked by a fog bank which had floated in that morning. Like many clouds, however, this one too had a 'silver lining' when I was able to snap the attached photo, showing silhouettes of fellow hikers eerily accented within the cloud bank. I returned to the same site the next day, by the way, to enjoy the unrestricted view sans fog. Still, I was happy to have snapped the 'silhouettes in the fog' photo the previous day. |
