Great Travel Moment In November 1999 management realized that a subsidiary in Buenos Aires was not yet Y2K compliant. This was a near impossible task because nobody here understood Argentinean accounting and most of the code was lost. The only way to complete this was to go to Argentina and work directly with them. Nobody else wanted to travel this close to Y2K or the holidays. I offered to go, but only if I could stop in Peru on the way home. They grudgingly agreed. By Christmas Eve I was finally finished and flew to Cuzco, Peru. The following morning I started hiking the Inca Trail. This treacherous hike of over 30 km contains a remarkable variety of ecosystems that range from the high Andean Plain to the Cloud Forest. This was the end of the trail at the magical entrance to Machu Picchu through the Inti Punko or Gateway of the Sun. |
