Great Travel Moment Wherever we travel, my fiancée and I always try to avoid organized tours and explore the sights on our own, in an effort to add to the adventure of our journey and avoid the usual tourist crowds. Our visit to Giza and the Great Pyramids in Egypt was no exception. After a sunrise camel ride and a visit to the pyramid complex we strolled through the streets of Giza and were surprised to find ourselves less than a mile away from one of the great wonders of the world and plunged into the mayhem of daily Egyptian life, with not another tourist in sight. Donkeys, rusty old cars, beggars, food stalls, children playing soccer and merchants of all kinds sauntered on the dirty streets scattered with pot holes the size of garden ponds while the Great Pyramid towered over it all - two very different worlds sharing the same plateau. |
