Great Travel Moment For quite a long time, Heidelberg's philosophers and university teachers have walked and talked along the Philosophenweg (Philosopher's Walk) on the northern bank of the river Neckar across from the city of Heidelberg. Hegel and Jaspers, Gadamer and Habermas discussed their ideas and thoughts, as did also the scientists Hermann von Helmholtz, Gustav Robert Kirchhoff, and social scientists such as Max Weber, the founder of modern sociology. Even today, besides showing excellent views of the old town and castle, this world-famous path offers new sights and insights. It is still an inspiration today, to walk there along the gardens and old houses with this beautiful view. Many sub-tropical plants flourish in the "Philosophengärtchen". Silver hand welcomes you with the letters from the word "TIBET" on each finger and the question "Did you philosophize today?" on the palm, reminding about the problems of the modern world. |
