Great Travel Moment As we pulled up to the Sras Srang temple, one of the Angkor temples just outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia, for sunrise, we saw upwards of 20 school-age Cambodian children running towards us, all trying to sell us postcards, coffee and bracelets. We rubbed the sleep out of our eyes and gladly bought some of their goods. They sat with us through the entire sunrise and, after realizing that we were not going to buy any more, ended up chatting with us about anything and everything. Not the serene sunrise we had pictured but even better. As we were leaving, one of the girls complimented me on my earrings and I said that she could have them. She immediately started bartering with me, not understanding that this was not a business transaction but a gift, with no strings attatched. She finally realized that I was just giving them to her and then I took this picture to show her how they looked on her.. you couldn't have wiped the smile off of her face for anything. |
