Great Travel Moment I was studying abroad in Beijing, China in May 2008 when the Sichuan earthquake struck, killing at least 68,000 people. I was in shock as the news broad casted and our translator relayed us the seriousness of the natural disaster. It was the worst earthquake in over 30 years and some of my classmates even claimed to have felt the ground shake. In the days following, we watched the country come together in mourning. We also experienced 3 minutes of silence to commemorate the lives lost in the disaster. All you could hear were the sirens and cars honking throughout the entire country. This picture of the little Chinese boy represents the patriotism and the respect the people showed towards the victims of the earthquake. |
