Great Travel Moment In daylight, Bruges's imposing 14th C. Halle, with its 272 foot belfry, is the embodiment of might and power, standing tall over the city's market square. We took in it's medieval splendor, inside and out, before moving on to the city's many other treasures. But there was an aspect of this grand building which we would have missed had we not crossed the square again that night on our way back to our hotel. In the spell of "that old devil moon," the ancient building was rendered a ghostly image of timeless beauty as old as the moon itself. It remains a picture in my mind's eye that forever captures the mystery and charm of an ancient European city. |
