Great Travel Moment In Hawaii from the 11th century on, if a person broke the law but could get to a Pu'uhonua(place of refuge) the lawbreaker could avoid punishment. This sanctuary was stripped of power in 1819 after the fall of the kupu system. Just being there you feel a sense of peace and can feel what it must have been like to be there. |
