Dream Trip 2009Everyone rides a scooter in Taipei, EVERYONE!

Great Travel Moment One of the things that fascinated me about Taipei was the sheer number of people on scooters. At stop lights, there would always be an army of scooters, a thick mass that no car could push through. And no scooter ever seemed to have a solo passenger. Anything was a go-- triple passengers, babies, any variety of objects would be loaded on the scooter. And when the light changed, if you had the misfortune of still being in the intersection, they would all just start zig-zagging around you. On this particular afternoon, we had just finished walking through a temple. As I was walking down the street, I heard a desperate meow. I turned around to see that no creature escapes a scooter ride in Taipei. This cat, that happened to look just like my own at home, was doing something very few American cats get to do: cruising on a scooter! |
