Great Travel Moment Totally awesome! It was later in the afternoon and we were visiting the ruins of the ampitheatre at El Jem. This Unesco World Heritage site is the third largest coliseum in the world and probably the best preserved because of the favorable weather conditions in Tunisia. It was very quiet on this particular day and we went down into the dungeons and saw where men and animals from ancient times had once inhabited. This picture was taken down one of the long hallways heading back to the opening into the centre of the ampitheatre where gladiator shows and chariot races were once held. The light cast such an erie shadow, you could almost feel the ghosts of man and beast in that cavern with you. The picture is not perfect, but to me, that is what makes it special. |
