Great Travel Moment I visited the Andean market town of Pisac in the Sacred Valley of Peru on a Sunday, and passed by the church just as the service was ending. The locals emerged, dressed in their elaborate and beautiful outfits, which demonstrated the weaving skills of this region. The puzzled looks and enigmatic poses of the boys seem to express some ceremonious gazing at the heavens, though all it really shows is a reaction to the drops of rain starting to fall. For me, the image recalls one of those unique travel moments that capture a glimpse into the daily lives of the people, as well as demonstrates how ancient traditions and aspects of their culture are interwoven, and continue to play and important role, in their current lives. I continue to appreciate how through travel and meeting the local people, I can learn a bit about the lives of others. |
