Great Travel Moment On August 15, 2008, after selling our home in Gig Harbor, Washington, we embarked on what became the best experience of our lives. We spent four months and traveled over 11,000 miles, mostly over back roads with our pop-up tent trailer. We tried to learn something new everyday and experience the beauty and history of America. We were so moved by Crazy Horse and the evolution of the memorial that we returned for a second visit. Being there brought thoughts of the original Native Americans, how they were exploited during the westward expansion, and how an area is now being preserved as a tribute to all native cultures. The memorial was a place where, in addition to observing the sculpture, you are able to feel in some small way a part of the Native American way of life, and better understand why the Black Hills were sacred. |
