Great Travel Moment Back in the 1920?s Havana was a paradise for American tourists. Escaping the Volstead Act?s prohibition on alcohol sale and consumption, the rich, famous and crooked came to Havana to imbibe. Havana was a haven for the illicit. Prostitution and organized crime found a home and were rife in Havana?s seedy underbelly. I imagine that this image, shot in 2008, is reminiscent of that era. An American car glides by dilapidated buildings under cover of darkness in one of Havana?s seedier quarters. |
