Great Travel Moment In 1959, my mother's Texas family hosted an Italian exchange student. She kept in touch with him for over 40 years before she and her sister took their daughters on a trip to Trento, Italy, to see him again and meet his family. My cousin and I adored both the city and the family and vowed to continue the friendship another generation. When I fell in love years later, I could not wait to take my boyfriend to Trento to meet my Italian zio. We vacationed in Northern Italy while engaged. (After all, I couldn't get married without the Italians' approval!) In this picture, my now husband waits for me in the gardens of the castle that overlooks Trento while sunlight streams over the southern Alps. After a day touring Roman ruins, a museum, a cathedral, and a castle . . . he just might be yawning. |
