Great Travel Moment I took this on my last night in Accra. I was walking to the hotel with friends after dinner and I was saying I was sorry to leave without hearing any local music. Then, in the distance I heard some. The street was pitch black. I followed the sound. By the light of the flash, I could see a man walking with a friend and playing an instrument like a banjo. Happy for an audience, he kept singing as I took pictures. This was my first trip to the African continent and I had just spent a week working with reporters and editors as a journalist volunteer coach in writing and editing technique. I had been intimidated, yet people were so gracious that the trip was a thrill. To have an impromptu concert appear out of nowhere, just as I asked for it felt like magical parting gift. |
