Great Travel Moment Chichen Itza. You've probably seen it countless times on History Channel specials and bad movies. It is an architectural feat, to be certain, but if you have never seen it up close and in person: you have no idea. Before seeing it person, I used to childishly refer to it as "Chicken Eatza" just to get a laugh out of my younger cousins. However, after walking through the Mayan ruins on a humid June afternoon, and climbing (what seemed like thousands of) the steepest stairs ever imagined, Chichen Itza has earned my unwavering respect. Coming down those steps was no picnic either- you have no doubt that you WILL plummet to your death. But if you've watched some of those history channel specials, you'll probably agree that "impending doom on the way down" was just what the architect had in mind. |
