Great Travel Moment As soon as my husband and I stepped off the plane in Casablanca, a never-ending flurry of people offered us hotels, goods and taxis. But, when we rode our camels into the Sahara desert, all we could hear was the wind blowing and the faint crunching of camel hooves in the sand. The gentle lilting of the camel, the smooth curves of the desert and the perfect silence were like nothing I had ever experienced before. After our camel ride, we watched the sun set over the sand dunes, ate vegetable tagine by candlelight, sat around a fire under a clear sky full of stars, listening to our Moroccan hosts drumming, and camped in a Berber tent for the night. We awoke at dawn the next day and ran up and down the sand dunes barefoot, feeling the cool sand between our toes. It doesn't get much better than this. |
