Great Travel Moment

Fed by glaciers and a freshwater lake, the Baranof River descends over a half-mile long series of rapids and waterfalls as it runs to Warm Springs Bay. Hidden along the ledges of the river and evergreens are several deep clear thermal pools. At once, you inhale both icy mist of the river and the warm spruce of the rain forest. This photo captures many of the contrasting moods of southeastern Alaska.
