Great Travel Moment Kauai is the oldest island of the main Hawaiian chain. It is an island of volcanic beginnings where the carvers of wind and water have created dramatic pinnacles and ripples in the mountainsides. When I took this photograph, I had already hiked the Nepali coast by foot but this was my first time seeing the land from sea. I marveled at the history carved by elements of nature. Rugged ridgelines bear paths for waterfalls to meet clear ocean waters. Spinner dolphins frequent the seas and in the early morning there is a stillness like no other. There is a great wilderness to explore on land as you wind in and out of each valley, all different to the previous, with waterfalls and remarkable views down to the ocean. In this moment I marveled at nature's artistry, a process that continues with each new dawn's break. |
