Great Travel Moment During our Alaska vacation, we had the pleasure of the most impressive water tour I've ever been on, which took place out of Seward and into the Kenai Fjords National Park. This is Holgate Glacier, one of many, and I will always remember this since it is one of the most powerful images I've ever witnessed in nature. Being over 400 feet tall (note 45-ft boat in foreground), the sheer magnitude of this structure made me feel microscopic. It really helps you understand how grand our planet is, and the power harnessed by it. While we were there, thousands of tons of ice fell into the sea with an almost indescribable thunder and created a swell that rocked our 90-foot ferry like a fishing bobber from over a quarter mile away. It's a majestic sight. |
