Great Travel Moment This incredibly lovely mooring was the setting for our 58th wedding anniversary. John and I had chartered a 38-foot canal boat. We took it through three rivers and three canals, 71 locks and 233 kilometers. We had no captain, crew or schedule. We moored where we wanted. We docked here at Moret-sur-Loing on the Loing River in Burgundy, September 17, 2007, 58 years after we married. Willow trees hung over the towpath and down into the water. Buildings nestled in the cliffs across the river. That evening we celebrated with Cru Chablis while people from the restaurant where we had dinner came by to peek into the boat, congratulate us, and to welcome us to their beautiful country. Swans that circled our boat were the grand finale. They, too, mate for life. This magical place gave us memories that will last for a lifetime. |
