Great Travel Moment One enters Deer Park to visit the Todai-ji Temple. The largest wooden building in the world. Over 1,000 tame deer roam freely over 1,200 acres of parkland. The deer are known as messengers of the gods. They are protected by law. Being an animal lover, I purchased several bags of deer food. I think the deer post sentries by the food stand and when someone makes a purchase, they alert their friends. They were pushing, tugging on my sleeve, and back of my coat was covered with deer "drool". The Japanese man seems to be enjoying taking a picture of the poor American being set upon by a rowdy band of deer. It was great fun. |
