Great Travel Moment This is the granddaughter of the Smallahova (sheep head) King of Norway. We were having the traditional meal, boiled sheep's head. She was demonstrating how they used to remove the fur. We had just had homemade beer out of a handmade wooden Viking bowl and walked to the back barn. As we approached from around the corner and saw her there with the sheep head on the stick in the fire I yelled out: Who wants smores?! That?s a cultural difference slapping you in the face. It was great! No way a 10 yr old girl is doing that where I grew up. We really saw a part of their country that not many travelers would. We also came to find out that not many of the younger Norwegians have ever had Smallahova. Always the daring Americans, we got through the eyeball and the cheek. yum. |
