Great Travel Moment This photo was taken at the rice fields near Longsheng China, about an hour outside of Guilin. When we first saw this village, surrounded by seemingly endless hills of terraced rice paddies, all we kept saying was "Wow! That's a LOT of rice!" It was amazing to realize just how much rice was needed to provide all that was consumed of this food staple by the huge Chinese population. The view itself was also incredible. The thin rice terraces created a striped effect across the hills, and it seemed that not a square inch of land was left unused. And the bright green rice fields contrasted beautifully against the old tile roofs with bright red lanterns hanging from them. It was one of the most scenic spots on our trip. |
