Great Travel Moment This photo was taken after four days of hiking along the Inca Trail and arriving at Machu Picchu, which sits majestically atop a mountain ridge about 80km outside of Cuzco, Peru. The morning of the last of four mostly rain-filled days found my boyfriend and me stumbling out of our tent before dawn to slide on boots and backpacks, still wet from the days before, to start a sunrise trek for a first glimpse of Machu Picchu. Like a page out of a storybook, stormy weather threatening overhead dissipated as our fatigued legs scaled the steep stone steps up to the sun gate lookout, just as Incan worshipers and porters would have done centuries before us. Past the sun gate and down toward the sacred site, we shared a humbling moment among grazing llamas and the stood-still-in-history stone walls of grand Machu Picchu. |

Machu Picchu is one of the destinations on my "Dream Trip" I have been wanting to see it for myself after I saw a documentry about it on the Discovery Channel. Looks like such a beautiful and amazing place.
