Great Travel Moment I took this photograph of an ancient Mayan monument at Tulum in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. I love the way the color of the monument harmoizes with the beautiful promontory on which is is perched, the way it appears in relief against the azure sky and turquoise sea, and the the way it is surrounded by some of the tropical vegetation which probably overgrew and hid the monument before it was excavated. The photo brings alive my memories of that sunlit day walking through the fascinating temple complex, the sound of the surf breaking against the beach below, the sparkling Caribbean, and the majesty and magic of a now vanished civilization. |
