Dream Trip 2009After saving a Jewish family in WWII--Mom K gets her reward at the Café de la Paix!
Submitted: Jul 31, '09
Great Travel Moment Mom K hid a Jewish family of five from the Nazis?one behind an upright piano! She escaped from Hungary after the Russians invaded and moved to America to become a college house mother. We met in 1997 and became best friends--even though she was 50 years older than me! I was devastated when Mom K was diagnosed with cancer in 2001. She had not been back to Hungary to see her family for 37 years, so I contacted her college children. They very generously paid for a trip to Hungary--and sent me too! They also gave us a week in Paris, where Mom K and her husband honeymooned in 1930. All the photos I have submitted recreate exactly the snapshots taken of Mom K and her husband during their honeymoon--at the Café de la Paix, on the Eiffel Tower and in their hotel. |
