Great Travel Moment The rain had been relentless the past few weeks on Cape Cod, but you would never know it by the smiles of these Portuguese dancers who performed at the Blessing of the Fleet, part of the Portuguese Festival in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Strolling down Commercial Street, clutching our warm, sugary Portuguese French toast, my mom and I suddenly realized we were part of the parade that was winding its way through town. When we reached the end of the pier, we observed a bus delivering these enthusiastic dancers. Their colorful dresses brightened up the damp, grey day, perhaps inspiring the sun, which finally came out that afternoon. When the ceremony began we stood so close to the priest that we both got sprayed with holy water as he blessed the dinghies and fishing boats passing by. I suppose that if we go sailing this year we'll be very safe. |
