Great Travel Moment Ramdevra is a festival dedicated to Baba Ramdev, a saint who was said to possess special powers and granted wishes to the needy. Every year devotees travel to a temple built in his honor in far western Rajasthan to pay homage. Many come from as far as hundreds of miles away and most on foot. Jodhpur is a major city on the route to the temple so from the minute we arrived in town we saw a nonstop procession of pilgrims from all walks of life. Riding in a tuk tuk one afternoon, I caught this gentleman out of the back window. (Baba Ramdev was said to have traveled on horseback so toy horses are a popular offering.) Of all the spectacular sights in Rajasthan the devotion of all those pilgrims, as represented by this man, made the most indelible impression on me. |
