Great Travel Moment Nothing has stayed with me longer than the eyes of these two children, crowding in to get closer. The boy looks curious, skeptical, questioning how the camera works, and how I'm able to capture his face by pushing a button. The girl looks into me, beyond me. I can't read her thoughts. I'm wondering how old she is, why she wears make-up, and if there's anything I can say to draw out a smile. I want to soften her stare and assure her the world thinks she's as special as I do. What would it be like to go back and see them? Perhaps I'd take the boy a tool kit and a toy car to fix, or maybe a disposable camera of his own. And the girl, I'd sit down with her, show her some books, turn pages as she requested, and perhaps make this a better day. |
