Great Travel Moment The cacti in Salar de Uyuni in Southeast Bolivia stand twice my height and more. Combine this with miles and miles of salt desert plains it feels other worldly. I spent 3 months performing an internship in the Altiplano of Bolivia. The occasional long weekend I would travel to other areas to see what this impoverished country beheld. I will never forget the 12 hour bus journey in the heart of a Bolivian winter punctuated with breakdowns, no heat and broken windows. I was so cold I had to cuddle my neighbor and ask him to share his blanket. I will never forget that despite the harsh conditions, landscape, and economy there was always warmth whether a shared blanket, bowl of potato soup, or in the company of Bolivian hospitality. |
