Great Travel Moment While this rooftop perch captured glimpses of the spectacular Mehrangarh Fort and the Umaid Bhawan Palace, another view, not of a tourist attraction, caught my eye for its jumbled simplicity and the mystery of who might live here. I love the mix of smooth and rough as they absorb the gliding shadows. In the background, a remaining wall from centuries past follows an uphill slope. With the day growing older, the Muslim prayer has just finished echoing over the city loudspeakers. A few minutes earlier, a man peeked out. I believe a woman waved to me, but I couldn't be sure. To think that people eat and sleep, pray, and possibly die here. This new angle posed fascinating questions. The house and the universal human details showing daily routines have left me thinking long after my return to the U.S. |
