Great Travel Moment I'm 22. I've visited 21 countries. I've moved 12 times. I've lived on 4 continents. I'm hooked on Egypt. I lived there from the ages of 11 to 15 and have visited every year since we moved away 7 years ago. It is my heart. My love. One of the past times I was there I acted as chaperone for a 5th grade class at the school I used to attend when I lived there. The field trip for the day was to Moqattam Hills, also known as Trash City. It is a Coptic Christian community that is equal to the untouchables in India. Their "city" is the trash collection site for the country. However, despite the unbearable poverty, they have created an orphanage and a school for children and girls to learn trades like paper making or rug making. This photo is from the trip to the orphanage. |
