Great Travel Moment After attending a wedding in Tokyo, I boarded the Shinkensan for Kyoto. The Golden Pavilion, the most visited temple in Japan, was at the top of my list. The two top floorr are covered with gold leaf. The Original temple was built by a retired shogun and at his death in 1408 was converted to a Zen temple. In 1950 the pavilion was burned by a fanatic monk who was studying there. The present buildingis dated 1955. You can see the Gold Phoenix on the rooftop. A road circles the lake gives a view of the entrance to the pavilion. The shimmering reflections of the pavilion and the pine trees on the lake add to the beauty. |
