Dream Trip 2009ROME SURPRISES: THE TEMPLES OF PORTUNUS AND OF HERCULES VICTOR

Great Travel Moment Venturing out into the streets of Rome's Historic Centre along side my niece, with no destination in mind except to walk off the stiffness we'd incurred during the Venice-to-Rome train ride the night before, made this unforgettable surprise moment of stumbling into these two little ancient temples near the Tiber River possible. We found ourselves laughing out loud and repeatedly bantering back-and-forth "can you believe this is our first encounter with Rome's ancient past and it's happening just a stone's throw away from apartment buildings and businesses." "Unbelievable!" First encounter memories of the happy kind are rarely forgotten. This photo speaks to me of the wonder and delight I felt when my eyes locked in on these two little ancient temples, a memory of made doubly wondrous for having been able to share this unexpected first encounter in Rome with my spirited niece, my namesake. |
