Great Travel Moment Our guide had dropped us off at one end of the hiking trail around the tip of the Cape of Good Hope and would be picking us up at the other end. The trail passed lighthouses and cliffs and led down a steep dune to the beach. The day was gloriously sunny and the green ocean was so inviting. We jumped in the water but couldnīt swim because the surf was too strong. We learned that the name "Cape of Good Hope" was actually a marketing campaign and a misnomer, because, in fact, sailing around the southern tip of Africa was incredibly dangerous. The contrast between the breathtaking scenery and the powerful ocean and steep cliffs was dramatic. |
