Great Travel Moment The Huntington is a private, nonprofit institution founded in 1919 by Henry E. Huntington, a man of vision; with a special interest in books, art, and gardens and a commitment to research, education, and beauty. Without a map, I began my walk through a splendid array of botanical gardens. Which of the traditional five senses directed me through the Garden of Flowing Fragrance? Visual - the elegant beauty inspired by the rich tapestry of Chinese architecture, horticulture and aesthetics Hearing - the soft, calm melodious lapping of water that replaced the drone of inherent crowd noises Smelling - the aromatic, multicolored blooms that entwined their fragrances throughout the levels Feeling - the intermingling of gentle breezes and calm stillness or the fusion of warming sun and cooling shade Taste - satiated with daydreaming, I was replete with hope and happiness. I did not cover the 207 acres, I will certainly revisit. |
